5 Pin Right Angle Pogo Pin Connector

Custom 5-pin right-angle pogo pin connector with a 1 × 5 single-row spring-contact arrangement and bent PCB tails. The right-angle architecture allows the contact interface and PCB termination to operate in different directions, supporting PCB layouts where a straight connector does not match the required mating orientation. Working stroke, PCB footprint, pin assignment and electrical ratings are defined by the approved project drawing.

Engineering Summary

This 5-pin right-angle pogo pin connector integrates five spring-loaded electrical contacts into a single-row housing with bent PCB tails. The right-angle architecture changes the relationship between the mating direction and PCB termination direction, allowing the contact interface to face toward the side of a PCB or enclosure.

Each spring-loaded contact provides electrical connection and controlled compliance along the contact axis. Final connector position, working compression and mechanical seating should be established by the PCB, enclosure and mating structure rather than by using the pogo contacts as structural stops.

1 × 5 Single-Row Contact Architecture

Five spring-loaded contacts are arranged in one linear row. The integrated housing maintains the relative position of the five contact axes as one connector assembly rather than requiring five individual pogo contacts to be installed separately.

Exact contact pitch, Pin 1 position, housing dimensions and contact-center coordinates should be confirmed from the approved connector drawing.

Right-Angle PCB Interface

The bent-tail structure creates an approximately perpendicular relationship between the spring-contact direction and the PCB termination direction. This architecture can support device layouts where the mating target is located beside the PCB rather than directly above it.

The final right-angle geometry should be evaluated together with PCB edge position, enclosure clearance, mating direction and available X/Y/Z installation space.

Bent Through-Hole PCB Tails

The connector uses visible bent metallic tails consistent with through-hole PCB integration. Tail diameter, bend geometry, horizontal and vertical tail dimensions, finished-hole diameter and pad geometry should follow the approved connector and PCB drawings.

Bend dimensions should not be estimated from product photography because small variations can affect PCB fit, connector position and mating alignment.

Mechanical Integration

Mechanical design should consider PCB position, PCB edge clearance, enclosure geometry, mating direction and target-contact position. Device-level mechanical datums and stops should establish the final connector relationship to the mating surface.

Mechanical Information to Confirm

  • Overall connector length, width and height
  • Contact pitch
  • Tail diameter and bend dimensions
  • PCB finished-hole diameter
  • PCB pad dimensions
  • PCB edge-to-connector relationship
  • Mating direction
  • Target-contact geometry
  • X/Y/Z mating tolerance
  • Mechanical datum and final seating position

Working Stroke and Total Travel

Each pogo contact should operate within the working stroke defined by the approved connector drawing. Working stroke is the intended operating compression range and should not be confused with the total available mechanical travel of the contact.

Device-level mechanical stops should define the final mating position so the pogo contacts remain within their intended operating compression range rather than acting as structural stops.

5-Contact Pin Map and Electrical Assignment

Five physical contacts provide five available electrical positions, but the pin count does not determine their functions. Power, return, sensing, control, identification or signal functions should be assigned through the approved customer pin map.

Pin numbering should include a clear viewing direction and Pin 1 reference so the PCB layout, connector and mating target use the same electrical orientation.

Current Capability and Complete Conductive Path

Current capability should be evaluated across the complete conductive path:

Source → PCB copper → through-hole solder joint → bent connector tail → pogo contact → mating interface → target conductor → load.

Contact diameter, pin count or a previous product-page rating is not sufficient to establish an approved current capability. PCB copper, solder-joint resistance, bent-tail geometry, contact resistance, mating resistance and temperature rise should be reviewed together.

Parallel Contact Assignment

Multiple contacts can be evaluated in parallel when required by a project-specific electrical architecture, but total current should not be determined by simply multiplying one contact rating by the number of parallel contacts.

PCB routing, solder-joint resistance, contact-resistance variation, mating geometry and current sharing should be included in the engineering review.

Signal and Data Considerations

Five physical contacts do not automatically establish communication capability or data bandwidth.

Signal performance depends on the approved pin map, return-path allocation, contact pitch, contact geometry, PCB transition, mating target and the complete electrical channel.

Application Fit

This 1 × 5 right-angle connector architecture can be evaluated for PCB-mounted electrical interfaces requiring five independently assigned spring-contact positions where the mating direction differs from the PCB termination direction.

Application suitability depends on PCB location, enclosure geometry, mating-target position, pin assignment, working stroke, electrical conditions and mechanical tolerance.

Environmental and Material Considerations

Contact material, plating, housing flammability, cycle life, operating temperature and compliance status should only be published when supported by approved specifications or validation records.

Gold-colored contact surfaces do not establish gold-plating composition or thickness, and a black housing does not establish a UL94 rating.

Customization Options

CTP can review project-specific requirements for contact count, pitch, housing dimensions, right-angle tail geometry, PCB footprint, working stroke, spring-force condition, pin assignment and mating-target geometry.

Final mechanical and electrical specifications should be released through an approved connector drawing.

FAQ

How are the five contacts arranged?

The connector uses a 1 × 5 single-row architecture with five spring-loaded contact positions integrated into one linear housing.

What does right angle mean for this pogo connector?

The bent PCB tails create an approximately perpendicular relationship between the spring-contact direction and PCB termination direction, allowing the mating interface to face toward the side of the PCB or enclosure.

Is this a through-hole pogo pin connector?

The visible product uses bent PCB tails consistent with through-hole style integration. Final PCB hole dimensions and footprint should follow the approved drawing.

Can this connector carry 5A?

Current capability is project-specific and should be validated across the complete conductive path, including PCB copper, solder joints, bent tails, pogo contacts, mating interface and target load.

What is the working stroke?

Working stroke is defined by the approved spring-contact design and should be distinguished from total available travel. The final mating position should be controlled by the mechanical assembly.

Can multiple contacts be connected in parallel?

Parallel contacts can be evaluated for a project-specific design, but current sharing, contact-resistance variation, PCB routing and temperature rise should be included in the review.

Does five pins mean this connector supports data?

No. Pin count alone does not establish data capability. Signal performance depends on the pin map, return paths, contact geometry, PCB transition and the complete electrical channel.

Can the right-angle tail dimensions be customized?

Project-specific tail length, bend geometry, pitch, housing dimensions and PCB footprint can be reviewed according to PCB position, enclosure space and mating requirements.
