Engineering Summary

This product is an individual spring-loaded pogo pin rather than a multi-contact pogo pin connector. It combines a spring-loaded plunger, cylindrical body and straight through-hole style mounting tail to create one compliant electrical contact point between a PCB and a defined mating target.

The spring-loaded plunger provides controlled axial compliance at the electrical interface. PCB mounting, solder-joint geometry, mechanical datums and the device-level stop should establish the final installed and working position.

Individual Pogo Pin vs. Pogo Pin Connector

An individual pogo pin is one spring-loaded electrical contact. A pogo pin connector combines multiple pogo pins with a housing, defined contact spacing and a multi-position mechanical interface.

This product should therefore be specified using individual-contact parameters such as body dimensions, mounting tail, working height, working stroke, spring force, mating target and electrical path requirements rather than connector-level pin-count terminology.

Spring-Loaded Contact Architecture

The visible structure includes a spring-loaded plunger, stepped cylindrical body, shoulder or flange and a straight mounting tail. The plunger moves along the contact axis to accommodate controlled variation between the installed pogo pin and its mating target.

Internal construction, spring material, plunger material, barrel material and plating stack should follow the approved part specification rather than being inferred from external appearance.

Through-Hole PCB Mounting

The straight lower tail is consistent with through-hole style PCB integration. Final tail diameter, finished-hole diameter, PCB pad geometry, board thickness and soldering conditions should follow the released part and PCB drawings.

Through-hole mounting does not by itself establish vibration performance. Vibration capability depends on the completed PCB assembly, solder joint, mechanical support and the applicable validation profile.

Working Stroke, Working Height and Total Travel

Working stroke is the intended operating compression range of the spring-loaded plunger. It should be distinguished from total available mechanical travel.

Working height is the installed contact height under the defined operating compression condition. Free height, working height, working stroke and total travel should be defined together on the approved pogo pin drawing.

The mating assembly should provide a mechanical stop so the pogo pin operates within its intended working range rather than serving as the structural stop for the device.

Mating Target and Contact Geometry

Electrical performance depends on the relationship between the pogo pin tip and the mating target. Target diameter, target material, surface finish, relative position and allowed lateral offset should be defined as part of the complete interface.

A rounded pogo pin tip can accommodate a defined contact target, but the surrounding mechanical design should control final alignment and seating.

Current Capability and Complete Conductive Path

Current capability should be evaluated across the complete conductive path:

Source → PCB Copper → Solder Joint → Pogo Pin Tail → Internal Contact Path → Plunger → Mating Interface → Target Conductor → Load.

Pin diameter alone is not sufficient to establish an approved current rating. PCB copper geometry, solder-joint resistance, internal pogo-pin resistance, mating resistance and temperature rise should be reviewed together.

For a complete conductive path with resistance Rpath, voltage drop follows Vdrop = I × Rpath and resistive power loss follows Ploss = I² × Rpath.

Contact Resistance Requires a Defined Test Condition

Contact resistance should be evaluated using a defined measurement method and operating condition. The result can depend on plunger compression, mating target, measurement points, test current and whether the value represents an initial condition or a post-life condition.

A resistance value should therefore not be published for this pogo pin until the corresponding test definition is confirmed.

Materials and Plating

The gold-colored external surface does not by itself establish the plating composition, underplate or plating thickness. Plunger, barrel, tail, spring and plating materials should follow the approved part specification or released BOM.

Material selection should not be used to imply corrosion resistance, medical suitability, automotive qualification or another environmental performance level without corresponding validation.

Application Fit

This individual through-hole pogo pin can be evaluated for PCB-mounted interfaces requiring one spring-loaded electrical contact with controlled axial compliance.

Application suitability depends on installation space, PCB mounting geometry, mating-target position, working stroke, spring-force condition, electrical load and mechanical tolerance.

Customization Options

CTP can review project-specific requirements for body diameter, total length, plunger geometry, mounting tail, shoulder dimensions, working height, working stroke, spring force, contact material and plating specification.

Final dimensions and performance parameters should be released through an approved pogo pin drawing and corresponding validation requirements.

FAQ

Is this a pogo pin or a pogo pin connector?

This product is an individual spring-loaded pogo pin. A pogo pin connector combines multiple pogo pins with a housing and defined contact arrangement.

How is this pogo pin mounted to a PCB?

The visible product uses a straight mounting tail consistent with through-hole PCB integration. Final tail diameter, PCB hole size, pad dimensions and soldering conditions should follow the approved drawing.

What is working stroke?

Working stroke is the intended operating compression range of the spring-loaded plunger. It is different from the total available mechanical travel.

What is working height?

Working height is the installed contact height at the defined operating compression. It should be specified together with free height, working stroke and the mechanical stop position.

Can this pogo pin carry 1A?

Current capability is project-specific and should be evaluated across the complete conductive path, including PCB copper, solder joint, pogo pin, mating interface, target conductor and load.

Is this pogo pin rated for 12V?

Voltage capability is project-specific and depends on the complete interface, spacing, insulation environment and system requirements rather than on the pogo pin image alone.

Is the gold-colored surface a confirmed gold plating?

Not from appearance alone. Plating material, underplate and thickness should be defined by the approved part specification.

What information is needed to customize an individual pogo pin?

Provide the required body dimensions, installation height, mounting tail, mating target, working stroke, spring force, current requirement, operating environment and available drawings for engineering review.

How specifications are confirmed

CTP reviews the application and prepares a drawing or specification for approval before sample production. Test scope, acceptance criteria and report format should identify the model, sample status, method, conditions, result and review date.

Can this pogo pin be customized?

Yes. Customization can cover geometry, contact layout, materials, cable construction, magnetic structure, sealing and appearance. Feasibility depends on the application and approved specification.

Are the electrical and waterproof values universal?

No. Current, voltage, resistance, temperature rise and ingress-protection claims apply only to the identified model and stated test conditions.

What determines sample and production timing?

Timing is confirmed after the drawing, materials, tooling, sample quantity, validation scope and production requirements have been reviewed.
